The Calgary Esperanto Center provides interested Calgarians and visitors to Calgary with opportunities to learn and use the international language, Esperanto. Carefully planned to be as easy as possible to learn, Esperanto is a bridge over language barriers making it possible for ordinary people to communicate effectively worldwide. The Center is home to Esperanto Antaŭen and The Dorothy Hawley Esperanto Library.

The Calgary Esperanto Center is the first of a planned chain of Centers operating under the umbrella of Esperanto Antaŭen. Esperanto Antaŭen (meaning Esperanto Forward) was founded in April 2001 with the support of research scientists at the Alstom Power Research Facilities in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland as well as individual speakers of Esperanto from four continents.

The Calgary Esperanto Center, offers Esperanto courses and organizes events, for people interested in Esperanto, and also maintains The Dorothy Hawley Esperanto Library. Visitors to the library can peruse Esperanto magazines, newsletters and other publications from more than thirty countries, as well as hundreds of books, (mostly donated from the personal collection of Dorothy Hawley). The library also contains a small collection of films, music cassettes and CDs.
